April 28th, Mr. Yuan Honggen, vice-president and China District chief representative of IMAX Corporation, signed an agreement with Xin Yuan Group, and decided to build the 1st Zhejiang Provincial IMAX movie house in the West Lake Cultural Square-Zhejiang Xin Yuan International Movie House.

The to-be-built movie house covers almost 10000 m2, with 16 movie halls and 2000 seats. There are 12 common halls, 3 VIPs, and 1 IMAX hall, with a total investment of 60 million. The IMAX is 500 m2 large, with 340 seats. The screen is 20 meters wide, and 11 meters high.

“Up to now, there are 22 IMAX mainland movie houses, 11 of which are non-commercial scientific halls.”

It is conservatively estimated that 10 foreign and 2 domestic 3D movies will be introduced and projected each year, which could yield a box office of 20 million. The maintenance fee for an IMAX movie house is around 0.3 to 0.4 million per year. Provided good movies, an IMAX movie house could survive.

The first 3D movie in the Zhejiang Xin Yuan International Movie House will be Earthquake Tangshan directed by Mr. Feng Xiaogang. At present, the movie house is working to have its premiere in Xin Yuan Movie House.
